Carl Bernstein on Rupert Murdoch’s Attempt to Buy the Presidency via Fox News

Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes of Fox News attempted to bankroll a run by General Petraeus for president of the US in 2012, assuring him that Fox would be his “in-house” publicity agent. This is not a rumor – it’s a clearly taped conversation between Ailes’ hatchet woman K.T. McFarland and Petraeus.

Carl Bernstein has an excellent article in today’s Manchester Guardian. (Remember Bernstein? He and his colleague Bob Woodward were the ones who showed what dirt Richard Nixon was up to back in 1972…)

A headline:

Why the US media ignored Murdoch’s brazen bid to hijack the presidency

Did the Washington Post and others underplay the story through fear of the News Corp chairman, or simply tin-eared judgment?
