Not Having Recess Is Really, Really Bad For Kids’ Health

The folks who have eliminated recess from most schools in the USA, in favor of more silent reading and studying while seated, are apparently going to be responsible for a large increase in serious diseases, according to this study.
“A Canadian study in the journal Experimental Physiology revealed girls who sat for three uninterrupted hours had as much as a 33% decline in arterial dilation, compared with those who broke up their sitting time with riding a stationary bicycle and had no vascular function decline. Researchers used nine girls ages 9 to 12. The New York Times (free-article access for SmartBrief readers) (9/23)”
