  1. I am not sure the author is correct but I do think he has a good point about investigations into Trump + family + associates’ financal dealings.

I have never given a lot of credence to the “Russian Gov’tplanned to get Trump elected narrative”. Frankly, I just don’t think the Russian Gov,t is that stupid. Even something like the CIA is, probably not that stupid.

On the other hand, I have always thought that the reason Trump was so adverse to the enquiry was that there was a real possibility that it would extend to the financial dealing of Trump + family + associates. The man and his organization are, quite likely, in violation of so many financial laws in so many countries plus likely in violation of so many US sanctions that a list of charges would have the same word count as the Encyclopedia Britannica.

Some of those dealing almost certainly involve money laundering for oligarchs in some or many of the former republics of the USSR. This might let Russia put some pressure on him but just as likely, it would let the Ukraine put an opposing pressure on him. In either case, blackmailing him mean shooting yourself in the foot.

Come to think of it, why has nothing been made of Trump’s attempt to invest in Cuba?

My reading is that Trump is in violation of some US law. I thought that the Democrats missed a great opportunity here. Forget a dodgy allegation about Russia, why not try to get him charged before the election?
